Medicines To Gaza, the next step for the ‘Medicines To…’ initiative is now formally live, with the poster element of the campaign now being formally launched in the UK.
Over the next couple of weeks, pharmacies across the UK will be receiving A3 posters with copies of the Pharmacy Magazine or the Independent Community Pharmacist Magazine to display in their pharmacies.
Mark Koziol, PDA Chairman said, “We are once again incredibly grateful for the support of the NPA with the latest iteration of the ‘Medicines To…’ campaign, Medicines To Gaza.
The Medicines To Ukraine campaign has achieved donations of over £4.5 million and provided high-quality, specialist medicines to hospitals affected. It is a testament to what can be done when pharmacists collaborate intra-nationally and internationally.
The need for essential medicines in Gaza is increasing day by day, and so we ask that these posters are displayed where members of the public can see them and make donations in preparation for when humanitarian aid can safely be delivered.”

The NPA and the PDA have united to encourage the display of the posters in pharmacy windows and in local communities to highlight the role that pharmacists can play when there is a humanitarian crisis. Rather than sending ad hoc medicines by post, they urge people to contribute to financial donations through an official channel to ensure medicines can be sourced by pharmacists and delivered in a safe, organised, and effective way.
All donations to the pharmacy-led ‘Medicines To’ campaign are managed solely by regulated charities, and the initiative is co-ordinated by pharmacists and pharmacy organisations in proximate regions of the World. Contributions are pooled into a central fund, which is then used by a local pharmacists’ organisations to obtain the medicines most urgently needed in Gaza, based on lists of greatest need provided by World Health Organisation teams located on the ground in Gaza.
Mark continued, “I have seen firsthand the huge response from members of the public when a humanitarian crisis occurs. We know that they often want to help by sending boxes of medicines and other supplies to crisis zones.
While well-intentioned, this approach is neither safe nor practical, as such medicines are rarely usable and supplies can often pile up on borders without any co-ordinated route to reach those in need. I have spoken to many charities who are all saying the same thing – you pharmacists know what you’re doing when it comes to medicines.
The theme for World Humanitarian Day, on 19 August 2025, is strengthening global solidarity and empowering local communities. Along with the global network of pharmacist organisations supporting ‘Medicines To’, we hope that pharmacists and the public across the UK will get behind this latest campaign to support those in need in Gaza in a practical way, which can really make a difference.”
