PDA respond to Future of NHS Patient Safety Investigations Consultation

The PDA responded to an NHS Improvement consultation on revisions to its Serious Incident Framework (2015). It said it was “encouraged to read the overall approach to patient safety outlined in the consultation document… The focus on systems issues, rather than apportioning blame to the individual for a human error, was not only refreshing but would underpin a safer future for NHS patients.”

PDA express concerns about the GPhC deregulation of independent prescriber training

The PDA has taken issue with the GPhC’s proposals for pharmacist independent prescriber training, which includes the removal of the two-year-experience safety net, the absence of a syllabus and seemingly the intention to allow pharmacy technicians to design and deliver training courses.

PDA statement to the Williams review on the case of Dr Bawa-Garba and the disclosure of reflective accounts

Following the recent conviction and striking off of Dr Bawa-Garba, the government asked Professor Sir Norman Williams to conduct a rapid policy review into the issues relating to gross negligence manslaughter in healthcare. The PDA has responded to the review on behalf of members.

Health Education England’s workforce plan leaves much to be desired for pharmacy

Health Education England has consulted on a draft workforce strategy for health and care in England. The section on pharmacy was mentioned briefly on pages 126-128 of a 142-page document, and left much to be desired.
