IPP is a joint initiative which was set up by NHS England and 15 other pharmacy organisations including the PDA.
IPP focuses on making the workplace more inclusive for pharmacy professionals, with a senior leadership that reflects pharmacy’s diverse communities, to improve health inequalities. It involves open conversations and meaningful actions to improve the experience of both patients and pharmacy professionals.
The initiative encourages engagement with local communities, helping to improve their health, and addressing the inequalities that people – particularly those from ethnically diverse backgrounds – can experience. For example, Covid-19 had a disproportionate impact on people from ethnically diverse backgrounds.
Dismantling racism, harassment, bullying and discrimination in the workplace
IPP is about creating inclusive workplaces and leadership that reflects diverse communities and supporting efforts to reduce health inequalities. During the week, there will be a number of lunchtime and evening sessions for pharmacists.
On Thursday 27 November from 1 pm to 2.30 pm, the PDA will be presenting an online workshop session titled ‘Dismantling racism, harassment, bullying and discrimination in the workplace’. This will be co-presented with the Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists (GHP) and Helio Fazenda, Chief Pharmacy Technician at Kings College Hospital, London.
This session will cover allyship and how this can be used to improve workplace culture. The presentation will feature case studies showing the negative working environments which can develop in the absence of allyship. It will also include what can be achieved when people work together to improve workplace culture via participation in the PDA’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Networks, campaigning and using its resources.
The Guild will present on their inclusivity checklist and Helio Fazenda will provide a manager’s perspective on building the right workplace culture.
Pharmacists are encouraged to register for the FREE PDA/GHP session below.
