This comes after PDA members indicated in a survey and by otherwise making contact with the PDA that they have concerns about the proposals. The survey results also show that there is a very low level of awareness about the proposals amongst the wider body of pharmacists.
What is being proposed is not just a decision about the future of the current RPS organisation whose principal objective is to look after and promote the interests of pharmacists. It would likely represent an irreversible decision to lose that objective. The members’ assets would be transferred to a new body whose senior leadership would be significantly made up of non-pharmacists and whose principal objective would be to act in the public interest.
If the current ballot is not called off, then the PDA urges pharmacists who are involved in the voting process to vote ‘NO’.
This would allow more time for this proposal to be properly reconsidered and amended where necessary. The PDA believes that it is much better to delay this matter and get it right than to hastily rush into it and get it wrong.
