PDA launches 2026 Scottish Election Manifesto

Health and social care are key features of the Scottish parliamentary election in 2026, with pharmacy and pharmacists being specifically mentioned in televised debates and political party manifesto pledges. The PDA has launched a manifesto with key asks of the next government to improve access to safe and effective NHS care for patients and support the vital pharmacist workforce.

Tue 10th March 2026 The PDA

In an era where healthcare is increasingly complex and multifaceted, with rising demands on systems and ongoing developments in professional practice, the role of the pharmacist has never been more critical. The PDA’s manifesto is a call to action for the next cohort of Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) to embrace pharmacists’ unique position within the healthcare system. As trusted healthcare professionals, pharmacists are at the forefront of ensuring medication safety, promoting wellness, and improving patient outcomes.

The PDA’s Scottish manifesto highlights the importance of pharmacists in the delivery of NHS care to those hoping to be elected to the Holyrood parliament. It sets out specific asks which emphasise the need for a sustainable NHS, investment in the workforce, integration across the system and effective governance.

The manifesto asks the new government to prioritise patient safety by recognising pharmacists’ clinical knowledge and expertise, and seeks the urgent provision of a better digital infrastructure which will both enable and promote best practice.

Through support for these principles and improved investment in the pharmacy workforce, there is an opportunity for pharmacists to better advocate for patients and contribute to the important debate around the health and well-being of Scotland’s diverse communities.
