This is part of the PDA’s ongoing work to improve the member experience by listening to members’ views and responding to their requests and suggestions.
With more than 40,000 members, the PDA is the largest pharmacist membership organisation and the only independent trade union exclusively for pharmacists in the UK.
Key PDA member benefits
- Professional indemnity insurance for the individual whilst working as a pharmacist. Insurance through the PDA ensures that members are not solely reliant on contingent medical malpractice (CMM) cover in the event of a claim.*
- PDA representation and advice for fitness-to-practise hearings.
- A dedicated team of in-house pharmacists and legal, professional, and employment experts on hand to provide support and advice.
- Membership of the PDA Union – the only independent trade union in the UK exclusively for pharmacists and recognised in many workplaces, including the NHS.
- Education, training and events to support personal and professional development.
- Programmes for students and trainee pharmacists to support their path to registration.
- Each year, the PDA donates £1 per member to Pharmacist Support – the charity that helps pharmacists. This contribution has now totalled over £300k in donations and is complemented by the PDA’s own mental health, wellbeing and financial resilience strategy.
- A PDA Plus benefits package of discounts and special offers on everyday goods and services.
The PDA also has four active Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Networks, which allow pharmacists to come together to address issues that impact them based on certain shared characteristics.
The networks include the National Association of Women Pharmacists (NAWP), the Black Asian and Minority Ethnic Pharmacists’ Network (BAME Network), the Disabled Pharmacists’ Network (Ability Network), and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pharmacists’ Network (LGBT+ Network).
PDA members can join any EDI Network for £10 per year, retired members for £20 per year, and non-PDA members for £30 per year. In accordance with the PDA’s support for future pharmacists, membership of the networks is FREE for PDA student and trainee members (PDA student and trainee membership is also FREE).
Further information can be found on the joining section of the PDA website from 11 am on 5 June 2025.
