Using a themed approach, each year, a new initiative will be introduced to raise awareness of key issues affecting pharmacy professionals, encourage collaborative action, and drive engagement in wellbeing activities. This year’s focus will be on isolation and loneliness.
The announcement comes on the 184th anniversary of Pharmacist Support, the profession’s independent charity that provides a wide range of support services to pharmacists and their families, pharmacy students, and former pharmacists in Great Britain.
Each year, the PDA donates £1 per member to Pharmacist Support. Since 2017, the PDA has committed to making this contribution on an ongoing basis to support the work of the charity. These donations now exceed £300k.
As well as supporting the charity financially, the PDA’s partnership with Pharmacist Support has included mental well-being workshops for pharmacy students that highlight practical tips on how to manage stress during the exam period, and how pharmacists can manage workplace stress.
This new programme will enhance the partnership and comes just one month after the PDA launched a Workforce Wellbeing Strategy – a transformative initiative designed to enhance the mental health, financial resilience, and overall wellbeing of pharmacists across the UK.
Jay Badenhorst, Pharmacy Director at the PDA said, “We’re thrilled to be joining forces with Pharmacist Support in this initiative rooted in purpose and compassion. Together, we’re not just raising awareness, we’re building a movement to help pharmacists create connections and fight against social isolation. This initiative is a powerful step forward in making wellbeing a priority, not just a possibility.”
Danielle Hunt, Chief Executive at Pharmacist Support said, “This new initiative builds on the successful and longstanding relationship between Pharmacist Support and the PDA. Over the years, PDA members — through their individual donations — have made a significant contribution to support the profession’s wellbeing, alongside the organisation’s wider commitment to the charity. This next phase of our partnership will shine a light on key issues, help build stronger connections across the pharmacy community and encourage vital fundraising so we can continue to provide free and confidential support. We’re excited to develop this work further and to deliver an inspiring programme together in the years ahead.”
