VACCINATIONS: All vaccinations delivered by suitably trained pharmacists have always been covered by indemnity insurance as part of the standard PDA membership apart from Covid-19. For new membership renewals after January 1st, 2026, Covid-19 vaccinations are now also automatically covered.

    The PDA Union continues to negotiate pay for members and has secured above-inflation increases for members whose employment with Boots transferred under TUPE to new employers in the NHS and Prison Service. 

  • Update on the Initial Education and Training Reforms

    Last month, the GPhC Council agreed on the overall direction of the review of standards for the initial education and training (IET) of pharmacists and the steps to be taken to finalise and implement the standards. The PDA welcomes the radical overhaul of IET to make it fit for purpose and to a foundation period which helps to develop the clinical skills that pharmacists will need in the future. 

  • PDA welcome Scottish government’s £500 bonus to pharmacists

    The Scottish government will give one off payment of £500 to all staff working within the NHS, frontline primary care, adult social care sector, hospice and palliative care & residential childcare in Scotland.

    The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) have announced two dates for the pre-reg exam in March 2021, which for the first time ever will be undertaken on-line. 

  • Reports to prevent Future Deaths with implications for pharmacists

    The PDA published a news item several months ago highlighting a Coroner’s Section28 report about the sad death of a patient who had died from an overdose of tramadol. The coroner, in that case, highlighted a failure to adequately monitor repeat prescriptions and the PDA felt that there were also potentially questions to answer for the pharmacy or pharmacies which had continued to dispense significant quantities of tramadol to a frail and vulnerable patient.

    The British Pharmaceutical Students’ Association (BPSA) invited the National Association of Women Pharmacists (NAWP) to present at their Southern Area Autumn Conference on Saturday 21 November. 

  • Pharmacists who were transferred by Boots to receive bonus payment

    The PDA has obtained confirmation that former boots pharmacists whose jobs were TUPE transferred to new employers will receive a pro-rata bonus payment calculated to their leaving date. 

  • Community Pharmacy NHS Contractual Breach Concerns

    Locum and other pharmacists are increasingly asking PDA how to raise concerns about occasions where despite locum pharmacist cover being readily available, community pharmacy contractors are closing pharmacies, potentially in breach of their NHS contractual terms and creating difficulties for patients.
