Responds to any untoward incidents, errors or omissions by providing up to £250,000 of indemnity in a GP practice which enables the state backed scheme to fund the more expensive indemnity claims. (only applicable in England and Wales) and £500,000 of legal defence costs to support pharmacists in any medicolegal proceedings in the event of any GP practice based incidents.

Additionally, it also provides up to £10million of indemnity for any portfolio work in other sectors of pharmacy,

For those pharmacists who qualify for cover under the State backed scheme (working in England and Wales and who are not undertaking any activities that are excluded from the State Backed scheme) and are content to have the NHS handle any civil claims for compensation, the PDA has created a new scheme which provides medico legal protection for the pharmacist, both in GP practice and in any portfolio career in other sectors of pharmacy, £5million or £10million indemnity protection for portfolio career work and £250,000 of indemnity benefit for practice based activities which enables the PDA to look after the interests of members in any civil claim in compensation. It is much cheaper than the comprehensive independent scheme because it falls back on the capacity of the State Backed scheme to settle the more expensive claims.
