You may be relatively newly qualified and you have just started to work as a GP Practice based pharmacist. Alternatively, you have been qualified for some time but you have not previously worked as a primary care, GP Practice based or clinical hospital pharmacist; you recognise that you are a trainee. You are working under one of the UK NHS Clinical Pharmacist in GP practice schemes, or directly for a GP practice. (either as an employee of the practice or through your Primary Care Organisation).

You do not yet hold any post-graduate qualifications but you are either intending to commence or you have already commenced a course which will lead to a postgraduate qualification that will be relevant to the clinical work of a GP Practice based pharmacist.

Currently, you may be involved in the more administrative roles that are related to medicines. Alternatively, you are starting to undertake clinical activities, but you are working under a significant amount of instruction and supervision. Your activities are being shadowed, either by a GP or by another suitably qualified and experienced practitioner (e.g. an experienced pharmacist).  You are not taking responsibility for supervising or mentoring the GP Practice based work of other pharmacists.  If you are making any changes to a patient’s medication then these are approved by another suitably qualified healthcare professional.

You recognise the ethical requirement for you to be working within the boundaries of your competency and the need to continuously develop your knowledge at all times. You will regularly review and update your competency boundaries. We have provided a Boundaries of Clinical Practice Statement template that you may wish to use.
